Abstract

During the cutting process, vibration greatly affects the surface quality of parts, quickly wearing out and damaging cutting tools and machinery. This paper analyzes tool vibration (Vib) and tool wear (Vb) during turning of AISI 4340 (34CrNiMo6) tempered steel using the Taguchi method and ANOVA analysis of variance. During the experiment, machining was carried out with different cutting modes, then measuring tool wear and vibration amplitude from the cutting tool was transmitted to the computer for analysis. The results showed the optimal set of technological parameters when turning for the smallest Vib and Vb values, and also showed the influence of each machining parameter on vibration and tool wear. Comparing the experimental and predicted results has shown that the values of vibration amplitude and back surface wear are quite similar
